Here is the Hungarian competition programme of Friss Hús!

The Hungarian line-up of the Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival is announced. Amongst the 38 films selected for this year's Hungarian competition programme are works by well-known filmmakers who have won awards at international festivals, as well as debut features, live-action films and animations.

Károly Hajduk goes to the beach, Judit Pogány and Mari Nagy fight for the affections of a cat, Gábor Dióssi plays tennis, and Artúr Kálid and Zsolt Nagy appear as fathers at Friss Hús (The Pale Man's Last Attempt at Sunbathing; Catfight; Spread My Fuzz and Fly Away; Metronome; The Other End of the Street). This year’s Friss Csillagok (Fresh Stars) highlighted at the festival, Dorottya Gellért and Raul Ionescu, appear in several films (Vacation, My Father's Son, You Keep Me Awake, Pantry). Returning are Luca Tóth (Vegan Mayo) and Márk Beleznai (Long Weekend) who attended the Cannes Film Festival while Lilla Kizlinger, the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Actress at the Berlinale will make her debut as director (The Centre of The Solar System). Animations that have been screened at international festivals (Meditation at Dusk, Shoes and Hooves, Your Dad), a short film with body horror elements starring Zsolt Dér and Dániel Pásztor (Blast) and an eastern film using folktale themes (The Last Soul Belongs to the Devil) will also be presented.

Several English language Hungarian short films will be screened at this year's Friss Hús, including Pun Intended, starring Máté Mészáros and Juli Jakab, among many other excellent actors, as well as Love, Cherish, Obey, directed by Frigyes Rácz, a Hungarian filmmaker who studied at the University of Southern California. Luca Pető, the youngest director in the history of Friss Hús aging just 18, debuts her film Loom at the festival. The short film version of Anna Korom's Diamond Beauty, which won the top prize at the 2023 Budapest Debut Film Forum, will be presented starring Zsuzsa Nyertes. A hundred-year-old film project is brought to life on the silver screen: Gábor Ulrich has created a paraphrase of an unrealised cartoon drafted in 1923, based on surviving sketches and research by Márton Orosz (Rekonstrukt). A full list of films can be found at the end of this release.

Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival was first held in the spring of 2013. Since then it has grown to become the largest short film festival in Budapest. It has evolved into a gathering of fresh, valuable and important works and creative young filmmakers with individual voices, where the general public and the industry can watch new Hungarian short films on screen, including works that have been successful at international festivals. In addition to film screenings, the festival offers professional programmes, workshops, round tables, concerts and many other events. The audience for the week-long festival has been growing year by year, with almost 10,000 people having bought tickets for last year's screenings.

The programme of Friss Hús Budapest sub-sections and the international competition will be announced later. The winners of the competition programmes will be announced on the last day of the festival, on June 5.
